Emma Skurnick "Awl Blossom" 11-15-12

"Awl Blossom"
Emma Skurnick
Colored Pencil,  11" x 13" Framed
$400

Emma Skurnick inherited her grandfather's hand tools, and, for her, painting them is a way of honoring the love he had for the tools.  It seems that Emma often likes to accentuate opposites and complements in her work.  In this exquisitely-rendered painting, she said that she was thinking about the combinations of:  flower and tool, of hard and soft, of old & new, of organic & machine.  If you, too, love tools, you can see several more paintings of her grandfather's tools at the Joyful Jewel or at Emma's studio during the Chatham Studio Tour this December.
