Joyful Iris is watercolor on cold-pressed paper.
I grew the flower in my own garden and had decided that I wanted to paint a
white flower, a color I have not painted before. I really like how many
colors are reflected on the surface of anything white, and this is no
exception. I do a floral painting at least once a year or so and
sometimes they are a little photorealistic. I wanted this one to be
looser and with a free play of color, letting some of the colors mingle as
watercolor is so good at doing. I mostly like the results, although as
usual, I am critical of parts of it. I do like the areas I painted
wet-into-wet and got that "just right" mingling of colors for the
reflected areas on the petals. ~ Beth
