Florence Johnson "French Hill Town 3" 8-16-12

“French Hill Town 3” (see another view below)
Florence Johnson
Watercolor & India Ink, 15" x 12" framed
$85

Florence painted this charming scene from a photograph she took in St. Cirq Lapopic, France.  She and her husband had lunch and then walked around this hilltop town.  They enjoyed the architecture and the way the pathways meandered through the town.  Florence has so far painted three of these "snapshot" scenes from this village.  See another painting below and come in the Joyful Jewel to view the other one in person.

Orlan Johnson - "Pepper Grinder" 8-15-12

“Pepper Grinder”
Orlan Johnson
Wood, 6" x 9"
$69

Every kitchen needs at least one pepper mill.  These antique looking pepper mill mechanisms needed a special base and the mixed varieties of wood in random patterns really catches the eye.  Each piece is a unique and very functional piece of art.   Pepper mills make great gifts for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, house warming events, etc.  Or just brighten up your own kitchen or table.          ~ Orlan Johnson

Rita Baldwin "The Bog" 8-14-12

 “The Bog”
Rita Baldwin
Oil on Canvas, 24" x 24"
$350

Rita visited a bog this summer in Illinois outside of Chicago.  She abstracted this painting from a photograph using a new technique.  She began by laying on transparent paint then layered opaque paints, wet-on-wet.  Rita laughed describing the fun she had as the bush slid around on the canvas between the linseed oil and the paints.

On a Monday

A young, good looking guy walks in with real desire to find just the right art for a brick wall in his home. He is appreciative and intentional as I show him many possibilities.  Our conversation deepens quickly and I learn he is a resident at UNC hospital. He tells me of a recent surgical procedure in which he saw a liver 'draped gently over the gallbladder, in a lovely amber color'  which prompts me to tell him about the Mamdalas I make from  mammogram images. He invites me to shadow a surgeon in the OR, but I'd become a patient if I did that, so I guide our talk back to our common wonder at the elegance of the body. We express  reverence for the True Art present in all of nature. He leaves. I sigh. Another personal highlight.

On a Monday,
Sharon

“My House - Faison, NC”
Gerald Dukes
Photography 22" x 18" Framed
$225

Houses like this one are one of my favorite things to photograph.  When I see homes like this I reflect on who lived there and what they did.  I would love to know what happened to the families that lived, loved and passed away in these homes.     ~ Gerald Dukes

Kate Ladd "Vegetable Garden Paintings" 8-11-12

 “Vegetable Garden Paintings”
Kate Ladd
Acrylic, ~ 8" x 10" each
$30 each

"Original art for your kitchen!  Most of us spend lots of time in the kitchen - why not have some art there? These cheery fruit and vegetable paintings will make you smile while the coffee is brewing or the dinner is cooking. They will fit into a small space, above a door, or as a group on a blank wall.
These are 8 x 10 inches and painted on gallery wrapped canvas. A gallery wrapped canvas has the staples on the back of the stretcher bars, not on the sides. The edges are painted [black on these paintings] so there is no need for a frame. "                                  ~ Kate Ladd
