Forrest Greenslade - 2 Dog sketches at the Joyful Jewel 6-18-15

2 Dog Sketches
Forrest Greenslade
Ink with touches of watercolor

Forrest Greenslade calls this series of ink & water color sketches "Doggie Doodles."  The top one is a Basset Hound showing every bit of soulful pleading eyes and floppy ears that make this breed so adorable.  The second one is a Siberian Husky that belongs to his daughter.  She is waiting for you to say ok, ready to lick the freckles right off of you!

"Lenten Rose"

Water Media, Framed Print

Surely it won't be long until we see more of these early-blooming flowers!  Forrest Greenslade knows how much I love this painting and just brought in a framed print!  His wife Carol Ann grows them profusely.

Forrest Greenslade "Windswept" at the Joyful Jewel 11-18-14

"Windswept"
Forrest Greenslade
~ 12" x 12" modeling clay, patina on metal flake and acrylic paint

This beautiful "painting" by Forrest Greenslade sold the day after I took its picture.  I certainly understand why it as chosen.  This combination of modeling clay, patina on metal flake making part of the coloring and acrylic paint makes a unique and balanced piece of art.  Important in this case as the tree needs all the help it can get to balance on a precipice and hold strong against the fierce wind and lightening.  What a dramatic scene of strength within and without!

Forrest Greenslade - "Fearrington Barn" at the Joyful Jewel 10-4-14

"Fearrington Barn"
Forrest Greenslade
Framed Original Mixed Media Painting on Board, 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" framed to 8 1/2" x 10"
$75

Here is another well-known local scene by Forrest Greenslade.  It is Fearrington Barn, a place many of us have visited for poetry & book readings by favorite authors, for ChathamArts big yearly party with Tommy Edwards' Bluegrass Experience, and many other events.  Forrest has captured the charm of this place before it was updated from it's earlier rural barn existence and gives us the sweet reflections of shared histories in short term and long term memory.

Forrest Greenslade "Visitations: A Nature-Lover's Journal" at the Joyful Jewel 8-1-14

"Visitations: A Nature-Lover's Journal"
Forrest Greenslade
Hardcover Book, 115 pages
$55

Many of us take extra relaxation time in the Summer to read and to journal.  This most beautiful journal is meant to record nature's events year after year in snippets of experience.  Each page has one of Forrest Greenslade's stunning paintings with the facing page days of the month.  For instance, when you first notice fireflies you can compare what you wrote down for the previous year.  You can record the camping trip you took with your family when a deer communicated with your young child, a gorgeous sunset at the beach where the moonlight skipped on the waves, the experience you had with the tree frog that played in the swimming pool with you, and more.

"Silver Tree in Winter"
Forrest Greenslade
Mixed Media including Metal, Plasticine, Metal Flake, Acrylic, 20" x 20" Original on Board
$400

Don't you want a bit of shivver just now?  This dimensional "painting" by Forrest Greenslade rises to meet you with icy tentacles.  Not that I am nostalgic for winter -- no way -- just want to remember the sharpness of frost, the glint of thaw, the dreaminess of the monotone landscape. Then it will be back to appreciating the brightness of color in Summer.  Thank you Forrest.

Forrest Greenslade - "Buttercup Breakfast" at the Joyful Jewel 11-25-13

"Buttercup Breakfast"
Forrest Greenslade
Acrylic on Board, 11" x 14", Original
$250

Looking for a little warmth on this cold cold day?  Forrest Greenslade remembers the fields of buttercups and how welcoming they are, a promise for next Spring of this other-kind of brightness.  Today our brightness comes from clear cold and even bluer skies.  This scene of a Belted Galloway feasting also reminds us of Thanksgiving and all we have to be thankful for - feast on!

Forrest Greenslade "In the Dunes" at the Joyful Jewel 9-11-13

"In the Dunes"

Forrest Greensalde

Mixed Media Painting, 16" x 13", Framed Original

$250

This fence on the dunes is laid out in an interesting accordion pattern which would be good for erosion control.  It seems that this scene must be on a peninsula so that wind and water are predominately coming from the side rather than the top of the painting.  You can tell this by the way the tree leans from the strong beach winds.  The sweet little house or barn, then, is safe as the weather is not likely to enter from that end.

Forrest Greenslade "Rollin' in the Hay" at the Joyful Jewel

"Rollin' in the Hay"

Forrest Greenslade

13 1/2" x 12", framed original, water media & colored pencil

$250

Let's do it!  Let's take Forrest Greenslade up on his invitation to "roll in the hay."  I'd say it's ok to take that in any way you want to on this sunny day!   It's a perfect day, the sun is shining, and everything is so

inviting that anything goes. And . . . there aren't any windows on this side of the house.  Jump on in.                      ~  Mariah

Forrest Greenslade "Egret" - Fine Art 4-11-13

Egret

Forrest Greenslade

8" x 10" Computer Augumented Watercolor

$100, Matted & Framed in 11' x 14" Frame

Forrest says, "This Egret was inspired by a trip to Florida to visit my wife’s sister.  It may possibly be my very first use of watercolor in a painting."

In my eyes, both the Egret and the background have a mysterious almost eerie look, floating in the mist together.    ~ Mariah
