Carolyn Levy initially signed up for a pottery class in order to get a fresh perspective on her painting. This "journey in clay" has resulted in a unique style marked by earthy colors and Asian motifs as well as the use of everyday themes, including flowers, bumble bees, sea shells and even pajamas! Carolyn also has a new take on such practical items as bowls, paperweights, and coin banks. Many of the artists in the Joyful Jewel community work in more than one medium and draw inspiration from each other's work.

A rainy day here in Pittsboro.  The plants outside the Joyful Jewel are sooo happy. And I arrived at work today to find a poem from our "mascot" Shuga. So I decided that this should be a "doggy" day. This elegant and colorful "Blue Pit Bull" is by Laura Davis. Her dog paintings have such great personalities and wonderful colors. I don't know where he is, with all the numbers on the wall. You guess!

On a Saturday

People are buzzing around here today. The store hasn't been quiet for a minute, and most everyone is from out of town. Lots of joyful comments about our gallery!

Just back from North Dakota, I decided to bring in a few prints of something I made for my sisters! You may find it a helpful, colorful item to hang in your kitchen, even inside a cupboard door. Please notice, cuz you probably never knew, my middle name is Heloise!!!

On a Monday

You know how it goes here at the Joyful Jewel. A lot of serendipity. I'm creating a website page for a new artist, author Linda Karcher. As I type the blurb that Linda has written about her book, ROAD TRIP TALKIN', another artist walks in who is about to take a road trip with her family. I tell her about this book designed for families to have some fun while traveling.

"Head Over Heels" is a card by Marrianna Osolin Putnam made from one of her colorful paintings.  It is my favorite to send for a variety of occasions.  "I am still soooo in love with you" for our anniversary.  "Congratulations on your new job" Denise.  "Ohhhhh you're taking a trip out West" could be the one someone sends to me this week!  I like that the card just has the title and the rest is blank with the smiling guy upside down and balancing on one hand ready to jump upward and clap between handstands any time there is a jumping-up-and-down kind of occasion.  What are you celebrating that is getting you head over heals?
