It's a honey pot!  Pam Epperson has made a turquoise and green lidded pot sporting a curious frog and a hopping bird.  Now it just needs some honey and a spoon to be ready for afternoon tea

Carolyn Levy "Lidded Turtle Box" at the Joyful Jewel 8-12-15

"Lidded Turtle Box"
Carolyn Levy
Pottery, ~ 4" x 6"

A sea turtle swims gracefully along the front side, and again in sepia on one of the other sides, of this clay lidded box by Carolyn Levy.  The perfectly fitting and elaborately adorned lid is easy to remove and replace with it's finial and the whole box sits securely on plump feet.  As is Carolyn's way, there are multiple details in texture and shape on every part of the box.  A surprise inside -- can you guess what neon matte color is there?

A Sunflower Bowl!  Goodness to enjoy as you pour in the cereal and milk, and then again as you finish eating it.  Pam Epperson made this just the right size for morning breakfast, afternoon strawberries & cream, and for hearty evening stew.

Amanda Egdorf-Sand "Porcelain Teardrop Earrings" at the Joyful Jewel 5-19-15

Porcelain Teardrop Earrings
Amanda Egdorf-Sand
Ceramic and  metal with Sterling Silver ear wires

Marrying the delicacy of a porcelain teardrop with coppery metal, Amanda Egdorf-Sand has presented the light and the dark together, kind of a yin and yang alchemy.  I think the metal pieces are an Oriental symbol.  Does anyone know?  I wonder if Amanda thought of this balance when she made these earrings.

Debbie Englund "Pitcher" at the Joyful Jewel

Blue Vase
Debbie Englund
ceramic

Shapely and so appealing with it's swirls of rich and creamy earth tones and its squarish handle, this pitcher by Debbie Englund would be perfect for just enough iced tea, a couple of glasses each for two.  The design makes it balanced both visually and in use with a handle sized for your whole hand and a deep spout that would trap the biggest pieces of ice while letting small ones pass through.  Let's go out on the patio together now!

Debbie Englund "Angel" at the Joyful Jewel 11-17-14

Angel
Debbie Englund

Angels we have heard on high -- and seen at the Joyful Jewel.  This pious ceramic angel is made by Debbie Englund and has a face of beauty rather than an "ugly" one like  Debbie puts on her face mugs. Angel shows a whole different side of Debbie's art!  Suitable for sitting on a shelf or hanging from a Christmas Tree or in the window.

Susan Luster "Terra Cotta Fern" at the Joyful Jewel 10-26-14

"Terra Cotta Fern" Tray
Susan G. Luster
Clay with Copper Glazed Fern, 12" x 11"
$75
It is interesting to see how differently Susan Luster's fern work shows up on her new terra cotta pottery.  She usually works in white porcelain. The fern is done in copper glazing, the same kind as on the white but the imprint here is kind of a charcoal color rather than the green that shows up on the white.  The look is more organic than the more elegant appearance on white.  I think it matches the subject, quite handsome on its hand-formed slab.

Carolyn Levy "Bee Cylinder" at the Joyful Jewel

"Bee Cylinder"
Carolyn Levy
Pottery, ~ 4 1/2" diameter x 6" tall
$30

Carolyn Levy initially signed up for a pottery class in order to get a fresh perspective on her painting. This "journey in clay" has resulted in a unique style marked by earthy colors and Asian motifs as well as the use of everyday themes, including flowers, bumble bees, sea shells and even pajamas! Carolyn also has a new take on such practical items as bowls, paperweights, and coin banks. Many of the artists in the Joyful Jewel community work in more than one medium and draw inspiration from each other's work.

Cynthia Aldrich "Sponge Cup" at the Joyful Jewel 6-28-14

"Sponge Cup"
Cynthia Aldrich
Ceramic, ~ 3 1/2 diameter, x 3" tall
$15

What a novel idea Cynthia Aldrich had.  Make a holder for the kitchen sponge!  The sponge can drain and dry while it looks pretty next to the sink.  Cynthia's signature glazing and little blue flower matches the other pieces such as bowls, brie pans, spoon holders, cake dishes, vases, etc.  Each of Cynthia's flowers and leaves have a unique personality just as real flowers do. What a great collection.

Joseph Sand "Stein Mug" at the Joyful Jewel 5-29-13

Stein Mug
Joseph Sand
~ 4" x 6 1/2 " plus handle, ceramic
$25
I'm thinking that Joseph Sand made this particular mug large enough for a healthy portion of hot chocolate or coffee.  Surely it would hold a whole beer too and would be fun to use as a stein with frothy foam dribbling down the sides mixing with the glaze froth.  It's handle is big enough for a large hand and it has a thumb notch for wielding it robustly while singing a beer-drinking song.
