Linda Collura "Butterfly Fairy" at the Joyful Jewel 4-17-15

Butterfly Fairy
Linda Collura
Ceramic

Who out there doesn't love a fairy and a butterfly?  Linda Collura chose both subjects in this full-of-life small sculpture. Life would be so grand for her in a beautiful flower garden or patio display.   Here is what she says about her work: "I use low fire earthenware with underglazes, glazes and lusters layered to create textures and feeling of depth with various handbuilding techniques. It's fun to imagine the characters that emerge once I begin creating a tile, bowl, sculpture, or any kind of garden art. "

Carolyn Levy "Button Jar" at the Joyful Jewel 5-3-14

"Button Jar"
Carolyn Levy
Ceramic, ~ 3 1/2" dia. x 4" tall, 2 piece with lid
$12

Cute as a button they say, this saying surely came from Carolyn Levy's ceramic "Button Jar!"  (Can't image what else can you?).  With it's perfectly fitted lid and countless "buttons" it is certainly cute.  Not only cute, but useful and at 4" tall it doesn't take up too much space. I think I'd use it for cotton balls or q-tips. What would you like to put in this jar?

Jennifer Strickland "Fused Glass & Copper Plate" at the Joyful Jewel 4-23-14

"Glass and Copper Plate"

Jennifer Strickland

~ 9 3/" diameter, + steel stand

$88

I work in glass and copper myself, yet I have never seen such a stunning combination as Jennifer Strickland made in this fused glass plate which is even more sparkling in person.  There is an alchemical magic to this combination that leaves me starry eyed and dazed!  This masterpiece comes with it's own steel display stand.  Surely it would entice one to change the colors in any room that dares to display it!

Pam Epperson "Rabbit Mug" at the Joyful Jewel

Rabbit Mug

Pam Epperson

Ceramic, 3 1/2" diameter + handle, 4 1/2" tall

$18

I'll bet she didn't even know she would be helping us diet!  Sipping coffee or tea in a mug as lively as this one by Pam Epperson, starts the day off so sweetly that you won't even have to put sugar in your beverage!  Pam's mugs are so expertly centered and the handles are perfectly curved to either cradle your hand on the underside like I do on a cold morning, or to daintily/sturdily allow the elixir to reach your lips using the handle the way it was meant to be used.

Vangi Cathcart "The Lover" Sumi-e Rabbit at the Joyful Jewel 4-17-14

"The Lover"

Vangi Cathcart

Framed to 9" x 11", Watercolor and Ink, Original

$35

I believe that Vangi Cathcart painted this very alert and charming bunny for a Chinese Year of the Rabbit.  He is painted in traditional Sumi-e technique with hand ground inks and watercolor.  Vangi's choice of "The Lover" is interesting.  I see him coming courting at your door in his best tuxedo colors with a bouquet of fresh flowers behind his back.  Surely this will entice you out to play.

Emma Skurnick "The Prey Make a Home for the Predator" at the Joyful Jewel 4-13-14

"The Prey Make a Home for the Predator"
Emma Skurnick
Framed Original

I think only Emma Skurnick would think to paint "The Prey Make a Home for the Predator" which surely says something about her own guiding life principles.  I wonder what specifically was on her mind, but for me it is a perfect post for Easter week.  Of course the rabbits are cute, also powerful, and the fox looks a bit perplexed. There is a lesson just in these images and much to ponder.  I say the bigger message though is, "Let us all embody peace and forgiveness."  Miracles are sure to follow!

In tribute to an earlier in time Easter, Vangi Cathcart painted this alert and alluring companion hare.  She is a wild hare influenced by the brilliant light of a full moon night.  Dance Sister dance!

Shannon Bueker "Elephant Folds" at the Joyful Jewel 4-10-14

"Elephant Folds"

Shannon Bueker

Ceramic Sculpture, ~ 7 1/2" x 11", with hanger on the back

$145

Shannon Bueker came in yesterday with new pieces and I thought I had taken a look, yet this morning I was totally awestruck by this powerfully humble elephant sculpture.  Shannon is widely known for her watercolor and acrylic painting, yet she has always done some pottery as well.  I just had to show you this one right away.  Elephant looks like she is entering the room right through the wall where her portrait hangs.  Perhaps aware of her large and intimidating form, she is approaching quietly and with care so that you will see she wants to tell you something.  She asks you for the same consideration as you come for guidance.

Sharon Blessum "Coming & Going" Photography at the Joyful Jewel

"Coming and Going"
Sharon Blessum
Photography Triptik Collage, Framed 12" x 4"
$49

I love the name Sharon Blessum gave this clever photographical triptik.  It is "Coming and Going", giving a view of just where you are at this minute -- as well as where you are going and where you have been.  Wide open space, clear views and a forever landscape -- is a longed for spiritual place, physical, mental and metaphysical.

Terry Perkinson "Steve Stingray" at the Joyful Jewel 4-6-14

"Steve Stingray" and Friends

Terry Perkinson

Merino Wool Sweater with Felt Scraps

~ 11" x 9"

$42

Meet "Steve Stingray", one of the animals made by Terry Perkinson.  He isn't really very scary with a big smile and merry blue eyes.  Terry makes her animals out of recycled sweaters, not just any, but sweaters of extra softness and pile, and other recycled materials and quilting pieces.  Eyes and other adornments are very securely sewn on so they can't be chewed or "worried" off, and the stuffing is just as soft as the sweater material inviting deep hugs.  Steve has long "wings" and "tail" making him easy for the tiniest of hands to hold and giggle with.

Shannon Bueker "Gardening With Animals" at the Joyful Jewel 4-5-14

"Gardening With Animals"
Shannon Bueker
Acrylic on Board, 12" x 12"
$160, Original

Posting this today for all you gardeners out there trying to plant today.  I say, "trying to plant" because -- well you probably know why.  At every planting hole, the cat wants to be petted, and after the radish seeds are covered, the blue jay who has been watching and waiting for you to go inside, has a feast.  I'm not sure what the duck would eat, maybe in this case it's beneficial as he is waiting for the weeds to eat. Perhaps you'll fine other animals in this painting.  Best of luck all :)

Pitcher & Spoon Rest
Cynthia Aldrich
Ceramic, Pitcher ~ 5" x 6", Spoon Rest ~ 4 1/2" diameter
Pitcher $30, Spoon Rest $10

I have been admiring Cynthia Aldrich's work for many years.  There is such a charm and the color combinations show off the flowers beautifully.  I am imagining sitting on the deck with this Pitcher full of iced tea and the Spoon Rest for the stirring spoon after a best friend and I have added sugar to our individual preferences.  We'll lounge and watch the birds waiting for the Pitcher to call us to the next glass.

This was my favorite piece of Terri Lange's when she was featured at the Joyful Jewel last month. All of Terri's pieces have a good dose of humor but this one is specially in it's ability to inspire us all to move!  Who would love dancing in this kind of shoe.  Even the floor boards are rocking!

Fairy with Butterfly
Linda Collura
Ceramic Sculpture, ~ 5" x 4"
$85

Amazed -- this sweet fairy entranced with the butterfly that has landed on her shoulder, and me looking at the engaging scene that Linda Collura has fashioned with her clay.  I know that pose, frozen in time, with awe at nature's bounty, pointing toward the Divine.  Quiet, still, fully focused, not wanting even the slightest of movement to interrupt the preciousness of the moment.

Ceramic, ~ 2" tall
