Shannon Bueker - "Gray Foxes by Road" at the Joyful Jewel 11-17-13

"Gray Foxes by Road"
Shannon Bueker
Acrylic on Canvas, 30" x 15"
$450, Original

What can be more fun to paint than foxes!  And of course, Shannon Bueker is the one to do it and capture their mischievous inquisitive natures.  Here they are alertly going about their business, not far from the thicket they probably live in.  I wonder if they are going out for the evening or just coming home from their adventures.

Rita Baldwin - "Crepe Myrtle Lane" at the Joyful Jewel 11-8-13

"Crepe Myrtle Lane"
Rita Baldwin
Oil Painting, 16" x 12 1/2", Canvas mounted on board, Original
$150

I see a Fall crepe myrtle on my way into work each day just as colorful as this one painted in oils by Rita Baldwin.   I know it's only for a brief time but isn't it wonderful to see this brightness, very much like a Spring color blooming again!  And crepe myrtles are a favorite winter tree of many, including me, because of their sinewy shaped trunks and immaculate creamy smooth dappled bark.  They are a beautiful tree with a different thing to love each time of year.

Linda Collura "Fairy with Butterfly" at the Joyful Jewel 10-26-13

Fairy with Butterfly
Linda Collura
Ceramic Sculpture, ~ 5" x 4"
$85

Amazed -- this sweet fairy entranced with the butterfly that has landed on her shoulder, and me looking at the engaging scene that Linda Collura has fashioned with her clay.  I know that pose, frozen in time, with awe at nature's bounty, pointing toward the Divine.  Quiet, still, fully focused, not wanting even the slightest of movement to interrupt the preciousness of the moment.

Florence Johnson "FTD" 5-25-13

"FTD"

Florence Johnson

15" x 12" Watercolor

$55, Framed Original

In lieu of a bouquet of flowers, how about sending this painting "FTD!"  Reminds me of flowers gathered by a granddaughter or grandson, carried proudly in the wagon from field to Grandma on a cool summer day.        ~ Mariah Wheeler

Jerry Fowler "Large Vase" at the Joyful Jewel 5-7-13

 "Large Vase"

Jerry Fowler

~6" x 18", Ceramic

$95

This simply elegant tall vase reminds me of Oriental art, bamboo against a white background.  What a perfect stand for an umbrella at the front door, holding a dried flower or peacock feather next to the fireplace mantle, or displayed on it's own shelf on the wall.  This is  a masterfully created vase, sturdy and ready for a collector of North Carolina pottery.

Jerry Fowler began making pottery in High School.  He studied Ceramics under Carlton Ball at Univ. of Southern California and built catenary arch kilns at UCR and in Brazil.  Pieces on display have been fired in a variety of ways.

Carolyn Levy "Curvy Platter/Bowl" at the Joyful Jewel 5-6-13

Curvy Platter/Bowl with Leaves

Carolyn Levy

Pottery, ~ 13 1/2" x 9"

$45

This cross between a platter and a blow would hold a variety of delicious dishes, adding to their flavor with it's glistening green leaves and welcoming shape.  Carolyn Levy fashioned this flouncing platter by hand and adorned it with several veined leaves, I'm thinking Beech tree leaves.  The smooth glaze and creamy subtle tones of green-tinged with an undescribable earth tone is especially satiny giving the impression of softness and a swirling dance.                              ~ Mariah
