Rosanna Johnson "The Date" at the Joyful Jewel 3-13-14

"The Date"
Rosanna Johnson
Acrylic on Canvas, 13" x 7", in frame "16 1/2" x 10 1/2"
Original, $50

This painting has been sold, yet I found it so striking that I decided to feature it anyway.  The piece is included in part of the poem I wrote for this year's Vision & Voice (which you can hear on March 23! along with the writings of 23 others).  Rosanna Johnson titled the painting "The Date" and I think there are many layers of meaning in this muted colored scene.  Do you see the face in the background and the wine glass?  Rosanna says in her artist statement, "My work focuses on simple subjects to highlight the beauty of things often overlooked in society.  The works often employ a "thinning" technique to create a translucent quality."  I think the face illustrates well what she means by the thinning technique.

Janet Place "Swirly Earrings" at the Joyful Jewel 12-8-13

"Swirly Earrings"
Janet Place
Polymer Clay, Silver Tone Findings, ~ 3/4" x 3/4"
$25

Janet Place makes beautiful jewelry out of polymer clay.  This pair of earrings has sparkly bits and swirly bits reminding me of the way water sparkles in a waterfall.  The colors are deep and mysterious.

Shannon Bueker - "Gray Foxes by Road" at the Joyful Jewel 11-17-13

"Gray Foxes by Road"
Shannon Bueker
Acrylic on Canvas, 30" x 15"
$450, Original

What can be more fun to paint than foxes!  And of course, Shannon Bueker is the one to do it and capture their mischievous inquisitive natures.  Here they are alertly going about their business, not far from the thicket they probably live in.  I wonder if they are going out for the evening or just coming home from their adventures.
