Beth Shaffer "Teapot Birdhouse" at the Joyful Jewel 5-21-13

"Teapot Birdhouse"

Beth Shaffer

various utensils!, ~ 7" x 7"

$45

Beth Shaffer is just as much fun as her wind chimes and these whimsical birdhouses.  This one is small, made from an old fashioned recycled single cup tea or coffee pot -- with that friendly worn look that Kerugs just don't have!  The lid makes a nice rainshield roof, and there are two places for the bird to perch while feeding her/his young.  Just imagine the sweet tinkling sound of a light rain combining with the yearning tweets of the young.

Beth says, "I make whimsical wind chimes from reclaimed recyclables. My great grandfather was a blacksmith. Funny to think that three generations later that I'm working with metal. It must be in the genes. I would like to think he would like my work!"

Carolyn Levy "Curvy Platter/Bowl" at the Joyful Jewel 5-6-13

Curvy Platter/Bowl with Leaves

Carolyn Levy

Pottery, ~ 13 1/2" x 9"

$45

This cross between a platter and a blow would hold a variety of delicious dishes, adding to their flavor with it's glistening green leaves and welcoming shape.  Carolyn Levy fashioned this flouncing platter by hand and adorned it with several veined leaves, I'm thinking Beech tree leaves.  The smooth glaze and creamy subtle tones of green-tinged with an undescribable earth tone is especially satiny giving the impression of softness and a swirling dance.                              ~ Mariah
