Two writers were inspired by Beth Shaffer's teapot windchime, and they wrote funny heart-warming poems for Vision & Voice.  No one picked this teapot bird house and she is sticking her tongue out in protest!  Actually the spoon tongue is a perch inviting certain types of birds to enter and build their house inside.  This type of entrance works for most songbirds but not for a woodpecker or nuthatch.  The dessert molds on top can catch a bit of water for the bird parents, and the straining roof allows for aeration inside the nest.  Beth has added a feathered beauty so there is absolutely no doubt who is invited inside!  This is the height of bird nesting season, so time to get this house outside.

Beautiful flowers recycled and rearranged to match the bright sunshine of this day.  Perhaps they and the cute birdhouse -- and Beth Shaffer who made them -- are certain that Spring will come.  However just a mere opening of the door reminds me that it is still Winter.  I want to experience making something so colorful and cheery with both realities in mind like Beth does.

          Beth Shaffer has more fun in life that many of us combined!  I never see her without a BIG smile and a BIG hug.  She shares her joy in her art and everyone smiles at these wind chimes in return.  This one has a stunning copper pot and an especially tinkly brass bell along with an assortment of cutlery and beads hanging from something like a metal doily - (Perhaps one of you knows what this really is).  The whole thing hangs at a jaunty angle and moves with only a slight amount of wind bringing delight and a lilting song.

           Beth Shaffer is just as much fun as her wind chimes and these whimsical birdhouses.  This one is small, made from an old fashioned recycled single cup tea or coffee pot -- with that friendly worn look that Kerugs just don't have!  The lid makes a nice rainshield roof, and there are two places for the bird to perch while feeding her/his young.  Just imagine the sweet tinkling sound of a light rain combining with the yearning tweets of the young.

        Beth says, "I make whimsical wind chimes from reclaimed recyclables.My great grandfather was a blacksmith. Funny to think that three generations later that I'm working with metal. It must be in the genes. I would like to think he would like my work!"
