Jennifer Strickland "Fused Glass Bracelet" at the Joyful Jewel 6-3-14

"Fused Glass Bracelet"
Jennifer Strickland
Fused Glass including Dichroic Glass, Silver Plated Bracelet Cuff
$48

Blindingly bright in the sunshine, this bracelet by Jennifer Strickland is made from highly polished silver plate with a ripple effect to match the ripple of the glass that Jennifer created for the centerpiece.  This piece is dramatic in colorful Summer cool water tones and would look great with a sundress.

HP & Sandra Pelzel "Paper Weight" at the Joyful Jewel

Ceramic Paper Weight
HP Pelzel & Sandra Boyd Pelzel
Ceramic with Metal Leaves and Finial, glass beads
~ 4" dia. x 4" tall
$25

It's only a paperweight, but what a beautiful piece of art it is!  The colors are absolute magic and of course the paperweight does his job exceptionally well, keeping everything in it's place as you rush in and out of the room.  Surely having this piece on your desk would encourage the kind of swirly dreamy conditions that lead to seeing beyond the paper to a place of creative breakthroughs.

Mariah Wheeler "Cuff Links" at the Joyful Jewel 5-4-14

"Cuff Links"
Mariah Wheeler
Dichroic Fused Glass on Silver Plate Mechanism, Glass ~ 3/4"
$30

Did you know that we have cufflinks at the Joyful Jewel?  Someone once asked for them so I decided to make some.  They are beautiful with swirly dichroic glass sparkle, reminescent of mother of pearl that is traditional, and just the right size to adorn yet not overpower a sleeve.  I chose colors that I thought either men or women would like and a mechanism that seems easy to use and put a reasonable price on them.  And . . .  all of them are still on the display board, not a pair has sold in the months since they were made!  Come to think of it, I don't ever remember wearing cufflinks and DG doesn't wear them either.  I do still like these though.  Alas, this is often the bane of an artist, having made something well and beautiful, yet never chosen . . .

Carolyn Levy "Button Jar" at the Joyful Jewel 5-3-14

"Button Jar"
Carolyn Levy
Ceramic, ~ 3 1/2" dia. x 4" tall, 2 piece with lid
$12

Cute as a button they say, this saying surely came from Carolyn Levy's ceramic "Button Jar!"  (Can't image what else can you?).  With it's perfectly fitted lid and countless "buttons" it is certainly cute.  Not only cute, but useful and at 4" tall it doesn't take up too much space. I think I'd use it for cotton balls or q-tips. What would you like to put in this jar?

Jan Dunn "Redbud Basket" at the Joyful Jewel 4-30-14

"Redwood Basket"
Jan Dunn
~ 12" x 9", Redbud base, dyed & smoked reed
$70

Who would have known that the prolific native redwood tree would make such a beautiful base for a basket!  Jan Dunn chose it because she lives surrounded by redwood trees and she dyed and wove the rest of the basket into a creative curvy shape, and tapered it just to fit the base.

Jerry Fowler "African Violet Pot" at the Joyful Jewel 4-26-14

"African Violet Pot"
Jerry Fowler
Ceramic, ~ 8" dia. x 4" tall
$35

Jerry Fowler calls this "African Violet Pot" but don't you think it could just as easily hold chives and thyme in your kitchen window.  Their shades of green and variety shape would contrast beautifully with the blue shades in the pottery.  You could have the sun shining directly glistening the blue and highlighting each subtle change in shade.  I say it's better than an African Violet where the pot would be in the shade.  And . . . your favorite recipes will love the fresh spices!

Erin Dail "Red White & Blue" necklace at the Joyful Jewel 4-14-14

"Red White & Blue" Necklace
Erin Dail
Lampworked Glass Beads, Coral and Finely Crocheted Sterling Silver Wire
$69 ~ 19"

Erin Dail has found the most beautiful lampwork beads to include with her sterling silver wire crochet work. This necklace has a playful feel with a lot of action, yet it doesn't bounce.  With all of it's dimensions, it still knows how to hug against skin and make a stunning bejeweled frame for a smiling face.

"Glass and Copper Plate"
Jennifer Strickland
~ 9 3/" diameter, + steel stand
$88

I work in glass and copper myself, yet I have never seen such a stunning combination as Jennifer Strickland made in this fused glass plate which is even more sparkling in person.  There is an alchemical magic to this combination that leaves me starry eyed and dazed!  This masterpiece comes with it's own steel display stand.  Surely it would entice one to change the colors in any room that dares to display it!

Jacquelyn Lowry "From the Vineyard" at the Joyful Jewel 4-22-14

"From the Vineyard"
Jacquelyn Lowry
Ceramic, with Underglazes & Oil, ~ 8" x 20"
$300

For Earth Day instead of featuring a succulent plant or a well-aging tree, I decided to show you this human being, a goddess intimately sculpted by Jacquelyn Lowry to celebrate the vineyards of life.  In her delicate condition, she connects us to nature and spirit through the growing life within and without.  "From the Vineyard" illustrates the best of what humans are capable of -- blessing with a loving eye and responding in a kind and respectful way to the concerns of nature.  Earth cares for us as we care for her.

Shannon Bueker "Rabbit" at the Joyful Jewel 4-19-14

"Rabbit"
Shannon Bueker
Acrylic on Board, 12" x 12", Original
$160

Much cuter than Bugs Bunny, but perhaps also saying, "What's Up Doc?"  Shannon Bueker's colorful rabbit is ready for conversation.  I think she is taking a break after hiding the Easter eggs, stopping to challenge you to begin your hunt for them.  How many will you have in your basket?

Pam Epperson "Rabbit Mug" at the Joyful Jewel

Rabbit Mug
Pam Epperson
Ceramic, 3 1/2" diameter + handle, 4 1/2" tall
$18

I'll bet she didn't even know she would be helping us diet!  Sipping coffee or tea in a mug as lively as this one by Pam Epperson, starts the day off so sweetly that you won't even have to put sugar in your beverage!  Pam's mugs are so expertly centered and the handles are perfectly curved to either cradle your hand on the underside like I do on a cold morning, or to daintily/sturdily allow the elixir to reach your lips using the handle the way it was meant to be used.

Vangi Cathcart "The Lover" Sumi-e Rabbit at the Joyful Jewel 4-17-14

"The Lover"
Vangi Cathcart
Framed to 9" x 11", Watercolor and Ink, Original
$35
I believe that Vangi Cathcart painted this very alert and charming bunny for a Chinese Year of the Rabbit.  He is painted in traditional Sumi-e technique with hand ground inks and watercolor.  Vangi's choice of "The Lover" is interesting.  I see him coming courting at your door in his best tuxedo colors with a bouquet of fresh flowers behind his back.  Surely this will entice you out to play.

Rabbits
Emma Skurnick
11 x 14" Print, Mixed Media Painting
$25

Not having reached my cute quota for the day, I am sharing another rabbit painting by Emma Skurnick.  How can one keep from soft eyed smiles and playful grin when experiencing this purely delightful painting!  What do you think, are they bringing branches for their nest or is this a prelude, a courtship overture?

Terry Perkinson "Sleepy Bunny" at the Joyful Jewel 4-15-14

"Sleepy Bunny"
Terry Perkinson
~ 7" x 14", Cashmere, Batik Cotton, Wool Scraps and Misc. fibers
$52
Cashmere soft and ever-so cudly this bunny by Terry Perkinson could be named "Sweet Bunny" -- or the name she gave it "Sleepy Bunny" so he could help you get quickly to cottony dreamland.  Sleepy gives you his heart, as do all of Terry's animals.  He is easy to hold on to for very small hands and safe for them as well since everything is very securely sewn.  Happy Easter.

Emma Skurnick "The Prey Make a Home for the Predator" at the Joyful Jewel 4-13-14

"The Prey Make a Home for the Predator"
Emma Skurnick
Framed Original

I think only Emma Skurnick would think to paint "The Prey Make a Home for the Predator" which surely says something about her own guiding life principles.  I wonder what specifically was on her mind, but for me it is a perfect post for Easter week.  Of course the rabbits are cute, also powerful, and the fox looks a bit perplexed. There is a lesson just in these images and much to ponder.  I say the bigger message though is, "Let us all embody peace and forgiveness."  Miracles are sure to follow!

In tribute to an earlier in time Easter, Vangi Cathcart painted this alert and alluring companion hare.  She is a wild hare influenced by the brilliant light of a full moon night.  Dance Sister dance!
