Zoom zoom.  Rolling on a roller skate "powered" by turbines and with muscle car like fins, this oilcan guy can surely go from 0 to 80 in a flash.  Waaaayyy to go Douglas Maccardini.

"Roll Bot"
Douglas Maccardini
Mixed Media Sculpture, ~ 12" x 11"
$75

This saucy guy has his own steam powered railroad car.  Douglas Maccardini made him from an old roller skate (the key kind -- who remembers what that is!), a brass gauge, silver tube smokestacks, parts of a car, an oil can, a faucet knob, etc.  See if you can find and name the etc.s.  Let your imagination roll along with this "Roll Bot" and see where he takes you.  Then come out a see Douglas's new expanded display of Bots at the Joyful Jewel.

"Rocket Bot"
Mixed Media Sculpture, ~ 12" tall
Douglas Maccardini
$75

I wonder if Douglas Maccardini thought of this as he created this brave traveler.  To paraphrase Elton John:

And I think it's gonna be a long long time

Till touch down brings me round again to find

I'm not the man they think I am at home

Oh no no no I'm a Rocket Bot

Rocket Bot burning out his fuse up here alone

Can't you just hear it now, as Rocket Bot takes off for another grand adventure.

Douglas Maccardini "Steam Bot" at the Joyful Jewel 6-7-14

"Steam Bot"
Douglas Maccardini
~ 7" x 6" Mixed Media Sculpture
$100

Thinking of what to get for Father's Day?  I think any Dad would love this "Steam Bot" by Douglas Maccardini.  Douglas built this piece on a sort of wagon with wheels that turn.  It has fins like a muscle car, a tall smokestack, brass wings, and fuel tanks.  The guy driving this Bot seems fully focused, intent on the ride.  It looks like he has a scarf blowing in the wind giving the impression that this baby is really flying down the road.  It will take many inspections and conversations to really discover what all the component parts are -- what fun to do as a family on Father's Day!

Mixed Media Sculpture ~ 12" x 11"

I think our newest artist at the Joyful Jewel, Douglas Maccardini, is an "art comedian" because his work always brings a chuckle.  There is a good dose of nostalgia working too as you recognize recycled parts.  This bicycle built for two has one figure whose body is made from an old metal pill canister.  I also recognize a tea ball, springs, wrenches, washers, and I think it's a door knob.  The darker figure has a metal cannister body that imprinted with "Rose".  Who knows what that came from?  Sharon Blessum put this piece in the window inside opposite the bicycle sculpture that sits outside!
