Janine Maves made several velvet scarves with burn out designs recently.  It's a departure from her usual exquisite silk paintings and not as detailed and without the mix of cave painting and meaningful modern content.  Yet the feel and colors are more plush and even more brilliantly colored.  This shimmering scarf must have the whole range of orange in it and seems to glow from within.  I suspect it would dance in a black light!

Wooah - maybe too much eggnog but I think I see Winter Solstice in this "Iris Magic," a photograph by Kim Hawks!  The colors are striking, almost blindingly bright, but the enfolding into darkness is coming. The long shadows are on their way.

The swirls in this stunning piece of agate are set securely and precisely with rich creamy and light orchid beads which accent the colors in the again perfectly, that Jody Jameson has expertly woven.  She has attached three beaded loops through which the three strand chain is strung.  As is her usual style, Jody has made the chain asymetrical.  This necklace has two strands of chain on one side, each unique, and one strand on the other side.  The bead woven bezel is just around the outside of the agate so that you can see the light coming through it's design on both sides.  Truly a work of art!

On a Monday

It's time to close the store
turn off the lights and lock the door
Shuga and I know what to do
to keep the Jewel safe for you

we make our rounds turn off the lights
pause for a moment before saying goodnight
watch cars with dear people heading home
eager for their familiars after the day's roam

we watch them and hope they see our little tree
to warm their way to peaceful rest like Shuga n' me
