Donna Cassidy - "Crocheted Ear Hats" at the Joyful Jewel 11-7-13

"Ear Hats"
Donna Cassidy
Mixed Fiber Crocheted, Various Sizes Infant - Adult
$20 each

Donna Cassidy has crocheted these fun hats variously called "Ear Hats", "Bear Hats," and "Puppy Dog Hats" -- as you can see.  The hats are easily stretchable so that they fit snugly without constricting.  You can perch them on your head by folding up the bottom as in this picture, or you can pull them down to fully cover your own ears.  And best of all - wearing this hat will ensure a smile from everyone you pass!

Sheila Fleming - "Wonder of Wonder" altar at the Joyful Jewel 11-6-13

"Wonder of Wonder"
Sheila Fleming
Collage in an Altoid Box, 5" x 4" when open, Mixed Media, Original
$48

Sheila Fleming creates the most beautiful art in miniature!  This altar entitled "Wonder of Wonder" says "From wonder into wonder existence opens" and has a quote from the Dali Lama: "You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level."  There is a picture of a cherubic mature woman angel cuddling a little girl.  I imagine that she is teaching, just as Sheila does in her own school teacher role, to always allow enchantment and wonder in her life.  Also inside this box of art is a small matchbook box with 6 or so inspirational sayings on magnets.  So, you can mount the Wonder of Wonder altar from it's magnet and also pick a different inspirational saying to mount each day as well.  I invite you to come see for yourself the beautiful details on the outside of the box.  What a wellspring of wonder Sheila has furnished!

"You Lookin' at Me" - Heron
Kim Hawks

It's amazing that this beautiful sassy picture is a photograph by Kim Hawks!  He seems to be daring you with his "You Lookin' at Me?" attitude.  It's apparent in his expression but also in his stance, and it all shows up so strikingly well against the pure white background.  "Don't you mes with me!"

April Ann Canada "Real Simple Flowers" book at the Joyful Jewel 11-4-13

"Real Simple Flowers"
April Ann Canada
Book of Original Photographs
14 1/2" x 11", $69

April Ann Canada loves flowers so much that she photographed a whole book full of exquisite close-ups.  This stunning celebration of flora would be perfect on a coffee table.  It would also make a nice gift for a gardener.  Or what about giving this book to a former gardener who will remember more than the image but also the feel, the scent, and the vitality of these flowers as they grow -- qualities which have been captured so amazingly well in April's photographs.

Florence Johnson "Woodshed" at the Joyful Jewel 11-2-13

"Woodshed"
Florence Johnson
Watercolor on Canvas, 14" x 17 1/4"
$100, Framed Original

Florence Johnson does such a wonderful job of portraying local scenes in a way that transports a simple, lowly subject into something grand.  In this nostalgic painting, the woodshed really shines and seems to beckon one to tarry awhile, maybe to store some wild flowers for drying inside, or just to sit "a spell" in the early morning mist.

Lisa Wright-Taylor "Untitled Windows" at the Joyful Jewel 11-1-13

Untitled
Lisa Wright-Taylor
Mixed Media on Canvas, 20" x 16"
$175, Original

Although Lisa Wright-Taylor didn't give this intriguing painting a name, I'm calling it "Windows Calling" as I want to go in each one and see what is behind it. I also see what could be Lisa's study room where she hones her massage, photography and painting skills through research and quiet reflection.   What do you see in this painting?
