Vangi loves all flowers and grows a variety in her yard in Pittsboro, NC.  I know that she grows sunflowers and also chrysanthemums.  Flowers are common in oriental painting.  She says, "All over the world chrysanthemums bloom in the fall.  Their spectacular gold, orange, and maroon colors defy the frost and the colder weather still to come.  Because of this chrysathemum symbolize righteousness in oriental painting.  On a cold winter day, it's good to remember . . .

I love the look of fused glass jewelry and make some of it myself.  This piece by Brooksie Edwards has a kind of frosty pink with blue/black iridescent glass, a wonderful combination.

Brooksie has a most beautiful artist statement too.  I'm so glad to know an awakening -- and accomplished artist like her: Listening to my soul has brought me to the awakening of my artist self. Starting out as a musician on my path then led me to the art form of fused glass. I love being able to combine design with color. Like life, the rough edges smooth and the layers get integrated. Anita Blalock made an extra strand for this Viking Knit Necklace greatly adding time to it's production and an equally great addition to it's beauty.  Instead of knitting gems and beads into the chain as she often does, Anita attached a bezeled pink shell. There is a mystery to this ancient wire knitting art that Anita has mastered and folks are always asking how it is done. The Vikings used items of this knit for currency. Shelia Fleming made an altar in an old Altoid box, attached a magnet on the back, and dedicated it to Bliss.  Inside are a few special treasures including Kuan Yin in in pagoda and a matchbox full of inspirational words which are on their own magnets.  Since the photograph here doesn't show the words well, here they are (an example of sayings and words inside the match box):
